Installation procedure for i686 (32 bit) Fedora 18 Linux: 1. Download the following files to a temporary directory on your system: http://n0so.net/fileadmin/ham/apps/rpm/fedora/18/i686/freedv-0.96-1.fc18.i686.rpm http://n0so.net/fileadmin/ham/apps/rpm/fedora/18/i686/codec2-devel-1223-1.fc18.i686.rpm http://n0so.net/fileadmin/ham/apps/rpm/fedora/18/i686/libctb-0.16-2.fc18.i686.rpm http://n0so.net/fileadmin/ham/apps/rpm/fedora/18/i686/wxWidgets-2.9.4-1.fc18.i686.rpm 2. Open a terminal window and cd (change directory) to the temporary directory you placed the four files downloaded in step #1 3. Become user "root" by entering: su 4. Enter the following commands: yum localinstall libctb-0.16-2.fc18.i686.rpm yum localinstall wxWidgets-2.9.4-3.fc18.i686.rpm yum localinstall codec2-devel-1223-1.fc18.i686.rpm yum localinstall freedv-0.96-1.fc18.i686.rpm That's it! You now should have freedv on your Fedora Linux system. If you would like to get these updates via the yum package manager instead of downloading manually, download and install this file in /etc/yum.repos.d/ http://n0so.net/fileadmin/ham/apps/rpm/fedora/n0so-ham-apps.repo Notes: A. There is no desktop icon to start freedv (yet). To run, open a terminal window and enter: freedv B. The wxWidgets-2.9 libraries install in /usr/local/lib to avoid conflict with the version that is part of Fedora 18. If, the first time freedv is executed it issues an error about not finding the libwx_ libraries, try running the following command as root: ldconfig /usr/local/lib The installer should do this, but just in case... C. Future updates should only require updating the codec2 or freedv rpm files. D. These rpms are for Fedora 18 Linux. Fedora 17 binaries are available in this folder: NOTE: Only for version 0.91 http://n0so.net/fileadmin/ham/apps/rpm/fedora/17/i686/ E. Please report any installation problems, especially missing dependencies to: n0so@arrl,net. Enjoy! Mike, N0SO
