Installation procedure for x86_64 (64 bit) Fedora 18 Linux: 1. Download the following files to a temporary directory on your system: codec2-1223-1.fc18.x86_64.rpm freedv-0.96-1.fc18.x86_64.rpm libctb-0.16-3.fc18.x86_64.rpm wxWidgets-2.9.4-3.fc18.x86_64.rpm 2. Open a terminal window and cd (change directory) to the temporary directory you placed the four files downloaded in step #1 3. Become user "root" by entering: su 4. Enter the following commands: yum localinstall libctb-0.16-3.fc18.x86_64.rpm yum localinstall wxWidgets-2.9.4-3.fc18.x86_64.rpm yum localinstall codec2-1223-1.fc18.x86_64.rpm yum localinstall freedv-0.96-1.fc18.x86_64.rpm 5. If you would like to get these update via the yum package manager, install this file in /etc/yum.repos.d/ http://n0so.net/fileadmin/ham/apps/rpm/fedora/n0so-ham-apps.repo That's it! You now should have freedv on your Fedora Linux system. Notes: A. There is no desktop icon to start freedv (yet). To run, open a terminal window and enter: freedv B. The wxWidgets-2.9 libraries install in /usr/local/lib to avoid conflict with the version that is part of Fedora 18. If, the first time freedv is executed it issues an error about not finding the libwx_ libraries, try running the following command as root: ldconfig /usr/local/lib64 The installer should do this, but just in case... C. Future updates should only require updating the codec2 or freedv rpm files. D. These rpms are for Fedora 18 Linux. Fedora 17 binaries are available in this folder: http://n0so.net/fileadmin/ham/apps/rpm/fedora/17/x86_64/ E. Please report any installation problems, especially missing dependencies to: n0so@arrl.net Enjoy! Mike, N0SO
