Ham Radio Interests

I enjoy building and operating QRP gear, and consequently have an array of home made QRP rigs, mostly single band CW.  My primary HF rig is an Elecraft K2/100 with the automatic antenna tuner, configured as "K2 Twins" (The 100W amp and tuner are in a separate enclosure). It was a pleasure to build, is fun to operate and works great.

I enjoy tinkering with new things about as much as I enjoy operating, so you can find me casually operating on HF CW, RTTY, PSK and even SSB. Sometimes I even run non-QRP power levels.

After seeing a D-STAR demonstration by the Missouri Digital Group at a hamfest, I became very interested, so I took the plunge and upgraded my VHF/UHF rigs to  D-STAR capable units. Now I'm hooked and been very active on VHF/UHF D-STAR. You can find me regularly on the K0MDG D-STAR repeaters, especially during the morning and afternoon drive times. Recently I've been experimenting with D-RATS.

I'm a member of the BEARS-STL and the ARRL, and I'm a registered Radio Merit Badge Counselor for the Boy Scouts of America.
